Stunned

What can I say?
I am sure you heard the news -
A station near us.
My family is safe.
2 female suicide bombers.
Women.
Why does that seem worse to me?
Who said if women ruled the world there would be no more war, no more hate?
Would they hesitate if they saw me on the metro with my baby?
or a child?
Would they blink?
Breaks my heart.
Prayers for the victims, their families, the 2 women and their families.

  1. It seems worse because women are supposed to be the more gentle sex...
I doubt they would hesitate if they saw you with a baby. They didn't hesitate to take the school in Chechnya.
My prayers are with everyone in Moscow, especially a family that means more than the world to me.

  4. Relieved to hear that your family is ok. Such a horrible thing. No, the bombers would not give you and your baby a second thought as they are heartless, sick people.

  6. Yes, it is hard to believe the attackers were women. I am glad you and your family are safe.

  7. Unfortunately there are so many sick people around the world.
You have female suicide bombers there and we had psycho mass-murderer youngsters that targeted high-school students and teachers here. :(
I'm glad that you and the whole family are safe there. Perhaps it's not a bad idea either to avoid visiting crowded place like city parks, metro stations and/or shopping centres as those terrorists normally explode themselves at the crowded places.

  8. If we all lived in fear here we would not leave our flats, although I will not be taking my child on the metro again. I will bow to my fear and the terrorists! life is too important and short for risks. Lets Hope Putin and his thugs get tough and put words into action NOW!

  10. I'm so glad that you guys are ok, my love and hugs.
And Memory Eternal to those who lost their lives.
I heard an excellent sermon on the Annunciation about women being mothers - and the priest said that is why mothers who hurt their children are so horrific is because they are denying their calling - I think that is what we see in this horrrible act.

  11. Finally saw this... a few days later. It really hit me that you are living in one of the major cities of the world. and you have to beware of such things. things like this will probably not happen in portland (we have our own issues- but suicide bombers, so far, are not one of them). take care! you are always in my prayers!

  12. Hello--

I am new to your blog (from Moscow Mom) and glad to hear you are all safe. My brother and his wife are in Moscow right now, bringing home their little one from an orphanage. Very scary to have a suicide bomber on the Metro.

I have really enjoyed reading your blog. I am working through it from the beginning and you have such great insight into Moscow and it's culture. I, too, have young children and marvel at how challenging it can be to live in a large city like Moscow. I haven't read every post yet but wondered if you found it challenging to be married to a man raised in a different (Russian) culture? I read Wedded Strangers (about Russian-American marriages) and found it very interesting--lots of challenges/blessings due to being raised in different cultures.

Anyway, thanks for posting so honestly on your blog. I've learned about the Russian culture reading your blog :-)

  13. I was reading about the teenage bomber, and it sounds like it was a revenge killing. In that case, it may be over...which doesn't make what happened any less awful, of course.
